This mid-Victorian cross necklace features taille d'epargné enamel, gold leaves, a central seed pearl, and a tassel pendant at the base. Taille d'epargné, sometimes referred to as black enamel tracery, translates from French literally as "saving cut." Such a lovely example of Victorian jewelry techniques. Most likely American, circa 1850 - 1870.
